Often referred to as Kona by locals, Kailua-Kona is a beautiful seaside town in the heart of the Kona district. Set on the western coast of the Big Island, it’s a sunny spot with white-sand beaches where you can enjoy swimming and snorkeling. Once a sleepy fishing village, this sun-soaked part of the island is only a few miles south of Kona International Airport. One of the best ways to experience this area and its spectacular island views is by taking a leisurely stroll along the picturesque waterfront.

Kailua-Kona is a sunny town on the west coast of Hawaii Island (the Big Island). Located in downtown Kailua-Kona, you can find the famous and historic places Hulihee Palace and Mokuaikaua Church. Hulihee Palace is a former royal vacation home dating from 1838. Mokuaikaua Church, from the 1800s, is Hawaii’s oldest Christian church. North of Kailua-Kona where the weather gets dryer you can find gorgeous beaches, the resort coast, and world- famous golf courses. Towards the South you can find many of our favorite snorkeling spots. The climate in the South Kona is more humid and perfect for the lush forests that surround the world-famous Kona coffee plantations.

'Kona-town' has excellent beaches, restaurants, retail stores and other features that make it a destination place on the island. Ali'i Drive goes through downtown with beautiful views of the ocean and plenty of restaurants and stores.

Downtown Kona has a wide variety of restaurants, shops, and services right on the ocean. Recommend finding some parking near the center of town and exploring from there.
