During the pandemic Ruthie had the lodge only open a few nights a week in the summer for drinks. It’s a classic place. Call for hours and stop in to buy a postcard that was printed 75 years ago …..and have a drink. Maybe they’re serving small plates.

When you step into Voss' Birchwood Lodge, time stands still. Built in the turn of the century (1908) Voss’ Birchwood Lodge is living history. Reminiscent of a bygone era, the Voss family continues to offer the same northwoods experience that attracted theater legends Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontaine to regularly stay there. The gourmet Chef Chris is a well kept secret. Try Ruthie's homemade pie for dessert. The restaurant's dining room overlooks a quiet bay of Spider Lake, one of 11 lakes on the Manitowish Waters chain of lakes. Breakfast & dinner are served. Luncheon and shops in the Chalet building, where you can walk through a well preserved 1930s era bar. Open June through September.
