Just over the South Carolina border as you cross the Chattooga River is a parking lot (to the left) for the Chattooga River Access. There's a short, paved trail that goes in two directions. If you take it to the right, it'll take you to Bull Sluice, a famous rapid overlook where you can watch kayakers and rafters pass through. If you take it to the left, it'll bring you to the water side "beach." It's a great spot to swim or picnic in the sand. The water is slower moving and shallower there than by Bull Sluice (although you should still be careful!). In the warm months, it's at the top of our list to hang out with the kids.
