From Dingle you need to go over the Conor Pass which in itself is like entering into another ancient world... this natural stone mountain ampitheater... has a beautiful waterfalll and above this parking area is the beautiful lake Peder - worth a clammer up the boulders to view. Continue to the Cloghane/Brandon sign at the base of Conor Pass and keep driving along to Brandon Point is at the end of the most picturesque drive along a rugged but 2 way road... and worth the effort. On the way you will pass through Cloghane village before Brandon village- both are full of vibrant coloured buildings, old cottages, a few pubs and magnificent views onto the Brandon river inlet towards Tralee Bay.

Mount Brandon is the second highest peak after the MacGillycuddy Reeks. Brandon Point is 40km west of Tralee and 20km north of Dingle (via the Conor Pass). You will pass through Cloghane and Brandon villages. There is an observation point with fantastic views at Brandon Point. The car park is right beside the viewing deck so this trip is a great choice for those who can’t manage a lot of walking. The area is a very popular spot for bird watching, particularly in Autumn. Keep an eye out for whales and dolphin too. Mount Brandon is named after Saint Brendan “the Navigator”, born in County Kerry in 484. He is said to have left from here on his famous 7 year voyage in search of Hy Brasail, or the ‘Island of the Blessed’. It is believed he travelled to Iceland, Greenland and maybe even America.

Next stop America - drive up to the cliff edge and marville in the views across Brandon Bay to Maharees or stare out across the Atlantic towards America to see the cargo ships passing in the horizon. A fantastic spot to go and watch the sun set into the water.
