Visit this geologically fascinating area of West Yorkshire on this challenging and atmospheric circular walk on Ilkley Moor. The moor is in an elevated position above the town with attractive moorland and wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. It's a beautiful place with pretty heather in the summer and a myriad of different footpaths to follow. One route, starts from the Cow and Calf car park on Hangingstone Road. Near here you will find the well known Cow and Calf Pub

Nestled at the top of Ilkley Moor, overlooking the pub of the same name, you’ll find the Cow and Calf rocks. There’s an old tale that suggests these rock formations were made when the giant Rombald stepped on them fleeing an enemy, but they’ve actually formed over 320 million years. Now, they’re a popular spot for hikers and climbing – you can appreciate the sheer scale of them as you walk between them and up to the top to enjoy incredible views. If you've ever sung or heard "on Ilkley moor bah tat" you'll need to go see where it originates. A fab walk around the infamous cow and calf rocks followed by a swift drink or a leisurely meal at the Cow and Calf pub across the way makes it all good!
