Turnul Negru ( Black Tower) is located on a hill in the centre of Brasov. You can get there only by foot to admire the city from above.

The tower located on a large rock on Warthe Hill. The purpose of the tower was to deny enemy soldiers access to the city walls, which, in this case, were no further than 5 meters (the pass was only widened in 1819–1820).

The tower was named ''the black tower'' after being struck by lightning on the 23rd of July 1559 and represented Brasov's first line of defense. The tower offers a spectacular view over the city.

The Black Tower houses a small war-related artifacts museum. There are four floors inside, each reached by a narrow wooden ladder. Climb all the way to the top for a panoramic view of the Black Church.
