If you do not mind a 30 minute drive, go to the Belle Isle State park. It has a beautiful stretch of beach right near the parking lot. Lots of hiking trails. On your way back stop for a bite and drink at The Corner in Lively.

About a twenty minute drive away, a beautiful riverfront park with places to walk and water to see. Historic home on the grounds. Kayaks for rent. Check the Virginia state parks website for more details.
