This was such a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it. I was lucky to be the only guest, which made it a special one-on-one opportunity. The host was warm, welcoming, and spoke excellent English—so helpful since I don’t speak Japanese. She contacted me beforehand with clear directions and made me feel at home. We cooked in her kitchen using fresh ingredients, including eggplant from her mother’s garden! She demonstrated each step and guided me patiently as I followed along. I learned so many tips I’ll use at home for tempura and sushi. We also took a short walk to a nearby shrine, which added to the experience. Her sweet mother joined us during the meal and shared her homemade umeboshi. This wasn’t just a cooking class—it felt like a true cultural exchange filled with kindness and flavor.

Der Kochkurs mit Makoto war eine tolle Erfahrung. Sie ist flexibel, sympathisch und hat eine grosse Passion für die japanische Küche. Da der Kurs bei ihr zuhause stattfindet, hatte ich auch die Gelegenheit einen Teil ihrer Familie kennenzulernen. Makoto spricht sehr gut Englisch und die Kommunikation funktionierte wunderbar. Ich bin froh, diese Erfahrung gemacht zu haben .

We thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent with Makoto. It was far more than a cooking session. She was both interested and interesting, fun, and engaging. Her English was amazing too! We started by going for a little walk to the local shrine and Makoto shared some foraging tips with us. After learning how to make sushi rolls and tempura, we had a matcha tea making experience. Es war eine grossartige Erfahrung. Mein Freund, unsere 9jährige Tochter und ich haben so viel über die alltägliche, japanische Küche (Bento) gelernt. Im Garten durften wir mit Makotos Mutter Bambus-Sprösslinge ernten, welche sie dann für uns gekocht hat. Das war so unglaublich lecker!
