I arrived at the Barzuto Market on a very rainy day. My guide, Raul, met me and immediately made me feel comfortable. He guided me through the market, helping me steer around the deep puddles, and showing me all of the stalls that Anthony Bourdain frequented. I appreciated the camaraderie he had with the various vendors. As a chef, Raul is passionate about food, and that added an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience. He is also a very nice, thoughtful, and professional guide! Knows just how to relate to tourists. I was impressed by that.
My only complaint was that the samples offered were extremely small-- think Costco samples. I wish that the experience offered heartier fare as I looked longingly at all of the seafood stews on offer. It is a FOODIES tour, after all! The samples included: bites of fried fish, various fruit, cheese, and beer. My favorite stand was the one with the homemade hot sauce. I have two bottles in my fridge right now. Love it!
