As Brits, we literally couldn’t believe it when we moved to Yeppoon and found that paradise was just a 30 minute boat ride away! White sand, crystal clear waters, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef from the beach…Keppel (Wop-pa) is straight out of a dream. There are a few options for spending time here, but all the boats leave from Rosslyn Bay, which is about a 12 minute drive from the unit. Keppel Konnections and Freedom Fast Cats are the two main companies, and both cost around $45 return. You can do a day trip (leaving about 9am, returning around 3.30pm) or stay overnight on the island. Accommodation options range from glamping to beach front cabins - check out GKI Hideaway and GKI holiday village. Our favourite beach for chilling out is Putney Beach, and our favourite for snorkelling the reef is Shelving Beach. You can rent kayaks, book scuba diving trips, do glass bottom boat tours, get boat drop offs to other beaches that’d take too long to walk to, and go on guided jet ski tours - have a look at Keppel Dive and Snorkel for more. We’d also highly recommend the day trip with Keppel Explorer which allows you to see much more of the island group.

Where you plan a day trip or longer stay. Keppel Island is magic! Enjoy beautiful beaches, bush walks, snorkelling etc, a great escape from it all. You will need to book at berth on either the Freedom Fast Cats (07) 4933 6888 or Kepple Konnections 0484 241 505, both leave from Rosslyn Bay Marina.

If you have a full day to spare and the weather is 100% spot on, head over to Great Keppel Island for a spectacular day on the island. Catch the Freedom Fast Cat over and back for a very reasonable price, it leaves from Rosslyn Bay Harbour in Yeppoon. If you're feeling energetic, pack your walking shoes and walk one of the many trails on the island for amazing views and secluded beaches. Be aware that there are only a few places to get food from on the island. And if it's a busy day (i.e. on a weekend) be prepared to wait a bit.

Great for day trips. Glass bottom boats, snorkeling and boom netting all available from local providers based out of Rosslyn Bay. Just 2km up the road from The Shack.
